Housewife Kate (Angie Dickinson) and her husband have a lackluster married life, and their son Pete (Keith Gordon) is obsessed with his own inventions. She often asks Elliot (Michael Caine) for help, and even wants to seduce the tall and handsome psychiatrist. One day, Kate met a man in an art museum, and after a brief trial of each other, the two quickly started to burn firewood. After the passion retreated, Kate remembered her husband and son, felt guilty, and was brutally killed with a razor by a strange woman wearing sunglasses just as she was about to leave in the elevator. Prostitute Blake (Nancy Allen) witnesses this horrific scene, and as a witness, she is suspected by the police of being a murderer. In order to clear her name, she decides to delve into the case to find out the truth, and with Pete's help, she quickly zeros in on a person named "Buck", who turns out to be Elliot's patient. Is all this a conspiracy or a coincidence? As Blake gets closer to the truth, great danger is getting closer and closer to her.
